I arrived at the hotel early evening, it was in complete darkness, no lights on anywhere, not even the car park. It looked closed/shut down. A man opened the front door with just the reception light on, he struggled to speak English, I could barely understand him. He told me the hotel was closed and just I would be staying alone at the hotel with only him, which as a solo female traveller I was very uncomfortable and felt very venerable with this situation. He did not understand why the booking had been taken, even if it was last minute. There was no heating or hot water. When he showed me the room (not the one I had booked), it was much smaller, there were a couple of heaters. I asked if the hotel lights would be turned on to be told only the stairs lights would come on if I walked through, not that I would be walking through the hotel or car park in darkness on my own! I told the man I was very uncomfortable with this situation and requested a refund, he said he understood why I would feel uncomfortable but could not offer a refund. I have tried contacting the hotel to request a refund, I am still waiting for a response.
There was a very limited choice of ales, only lagers and bottles. Food was well cooked and tasty, but really overpriced and small portions. For example, salmon, tomatoes and tender sweet broccoli was nearly £20!! Service was good and friendly
Last minute booking to make a day trip into a weekend. Husband booked as dog friendly hotel as couldn’t leave ours at home. First - exceptionally clean hotel. 2nd - definitely dog friendly - the owners and staff love dogs! 3rd - the manager/owner David is just wonderful! Friendly, knowledgeable, gin expert! Definitely a dog lover. 4th - food was delicious and different in the restaurant. 5th - room , very clean, comfortable , great tea and coffee in the room. 6th - it’s not cheap, and you don’t get luxury- but what you get is a genuinely fabulous host, who loves his business, and is great with his customers, and a clean, well decorated, customer oriented experience.
Our stay was brilliant from beginning to end. Friendly staff and even friendlier dogs. The room was spacious and well kept with plenty of teas, coffees etc and a coffee maker. Breakfast was really good with a good selection of options. The hotel is situated in a great spot close to the beach and the village with plenty of parking which seems to be at a premium in Harlech. I’m not sure who some of the people giving bad reviews of the hotel on here were dealing with but it was definitely nothing like they made it out to be. No arrogance, no rudeness or bad attitudes. Just happy helpful staff that made our stay welcoming and really enjoyable. I would guess that keyboard warriors are impossible to please and very vocal with their negativity. To quote Arnold Schwarzenegger “I’ll be back”
Wow, what a great place to stay with our dog Lilly. The guys there were great and very accommodating with our nervous dog Lilly who was made to feel like family. We were in Room 4, which was very clean, very comfortable and had plenty of coffee. The whole hotel is dog friendly, even the restaurant which made our weekend away even more special as Lilly could sit under the table whilst we had dinner. Talking of dinner, the food was amazing, all cooked fresh and don't forget the choice of so many different Gins and Whisky on offer. Would recommend this establishment if anyone is visiting Barmouth or surrounding area.
Perfect spot for us! We planned a last minute trip to walk Snowden over the long weekend and found Branwen hotel online. The owner was really lovely and very accommodating. He also had great local knowledge and made some useful suggestions when planning our trip over Snowden and of other things to do in the area. The bar was stocked full of delicious Gin and we enjoyed the fully Wlesh breakfast each morning. Rooms were perfect, clean and comfortable. We’d visit again and definitely recommend!
Sunday 5th may be trying to ring this hotel (from Spain where I live) in order to pay for dinner for my brother, wife and mother in law, stating here and eating here, overnight. Impossible to to get through on the phone....just an answering service stating the times the bar and restaurant open..,. five phone calls in 2 hours from Spanish and UK phones and no answer !!! So unable to pay for dinner and wine for my brother's anniversary. Might be Sunday evening but if the restaurant is open as stated then someone should answer the phone. WHAT IF it were an emergency and a family member was attempting to contact a guest ??? Not good.
Very expensive for a very average meal. No ambiance and bar cold and scruffy. The smallest, cheapest paper napkins. The photos of the bar and restaurant bear no resemblance to the reality. Example being there are NO tablecloths. I was so disappointed and it spoilt our 2 nights in Harlech.
The hotel was excellent ,staff were lovely food was excellent, room and bed was very comfortable lovely position overlooking the sea ,would definitely stay again easy to find ,we were the only ones staying but nothing was too much trouble very clean as well
