Toasted sandwich, two pieces of cake, one tea and one coffee. All good. However, the place is filthy and run down. Muck in all the corners and just generally scruffy. Won’t be back.

Wonderful family Santa’s Grotto experience with my grandson and family. Annie the elf was so welcoming. Santa was calm, patient and friendly. Having photos taken was an added bonus. Lovely staff at Birtley Dobbies.

Had a mxmas dinner meal here today.It was quite frankly a disgrace.Plate was cold,veg was almost unbeatable with carrots frazzled,turkey wasn't of a hood taste and stuffing hard with roast potatoes not nice. Luckily the staff refunded me and others. Obviously they have a serious problem.

The staff here were exceptionally kind! It's years since my elderly parents were treated with so much patience, kindness and respect. We took a long time choosing and swapping breakfast items and orders and had no hint of irritation from the lovely staff. The only reason I couldn't give 5/5 was that the roof was leaking above our table. The staff, again, were very kind in helping us. Whatever you pay these lovely ladies, they deserve a Christmas bonus!

Today was exceptionally busy including the cafe. We always visit on a Saturday for lunch. I understand today was busy so we joined the queue and decided to just have a scone and a coffee. There were no plates and the customers in front were taking plates from the sandwich section. The staff member got annoyed and announced in a loud voice that unless you have a seat don’t proceed with any food, I said how can you get a seat first from the back of the queue? She said well we are busy and unless you have a seat you can’t be served. This would not work as essentially there were people just waiting on drinks, they would go to find a table and find people sitting with no food. Crazy! We left! I returned later to buy some take away scones and asked to speak to the Manager. It happened that the deputy Manager was serving on the tills. He agreed the system is poor when busy times but agreed that staff should not speak to customers in that tone. I agree! There needs to be help to find customers seats or have a ticket system in busy times. Lessons in how to address the public and manners would be appreciated.

Afternoon tea with friends. Excellent value, lovely food and friendly helpful staff. We really enjoyed our meal. Table set with festive cover, small Christmas tree and bright napkins ! Well worth a visit !

Top Notch Service,from the moment we entered the cafe till we left ,service was great.The Scottish accent lass who did our soup and sandwiches full marks polite and cheerful.And to the coffee maker and till lass well done to you both to.Definitely a change of atmosphere in there ,well done team

Huge queues, very noisy, drier than sticks scones, confusing service. Server shouted at us but I couldnt understand what she was saying. My friend, who had been there previously, said this was common. Just consumed some of the dry scones as quickly as possible and was glad to get out.
