Statue of King John的点评
点评：John - Johann in German - the King of Saxony between 1854 - 1873 , his equestrian statue is place in the Theatreplatz in Dresden. He was a member of the House of Wettin (one of the oldest dynasties in Europe - it can be traced back 1000 years to the early years of the XI-th century - the ancestry of the House of Wettin can be seen on the mural "Procession of Princes", that is decorating the wall of the castle of Dresden.
But enough of the history lesson - the statue of king John was erected in the late 1800's several years after his death.
On the pedestal of the statue there is a interesting bas-relief depicting images from arts and music, industry and trade, etc. - since king John was a promoter for such activities and also what is catching the eye , on the four corners of the pedestal the visitor can see 4 columns (cast in metal not real flames ) with burning flames on top.
In the front bellow his name it can be seen the coat of arms of the House of Wettin.
Overall an interesting spot in Dresden - definitely worth a few minutes of your time and some pictures.
