点评:This is my favourite sculpture in Rundle Mall. You can’t just walk past it - you have to stop and you can’t help but smile. Its just so unexpected.
What you see here is a group of four life-size, bronze pigs by artist Marguerite Derricourt.
They are very realistic and look as if they have just escaped from a local farm and are having a lovely time snuffling through bins, sniffing the ground and wandering through the mall.
One stands up with his snout in a bin which is overflowing with bronze rubbish. Half a banana and an apple core flow over the top.
Each piggy has a name - Horatio, Oliver, Truffles and Augusta (see the small plaque in the ground beside each one).
The quirky statue is a bit of fun and something kids will enjoy. It reminded me of the famous large bronze pig in Florence, “Il Porcellino”, a copy of which sits along Macquarie Street in Sydney’s CBD.
