点评:One of the most strenuous hikes I’ve done especially the last 2 miles which involved a steady climb out of the crater and included multiple switch backs. You would definitely benefit from bringing hiking poles. However, this was a mind-blowing hike. I felt like I was on another planet. Probably the most memorable hiking experience I have done. Fortunate to have clear weather for the first 6 miles. Clouds moved in the final 5 miles during the midafternoon, but this added another mystique to the hike. I was able to complete the hike in 6 hours and I’m a middle-aged guy in only moderate shape. Parked at the Halemau’u Trailhead which is the end point of the hike around 1045am and waited only a few minutes before hitching a ride to the summit. There is a designated spot to stand to catch a ride and this is a common practice here so don't hesitate. This is much better than parking at the summit and waiting for a ride back there after finishing the hike. If it's later in the day, you could be waiting for a long time.
