I am writing to express my concerns regarding the poor management and unfair practices at George Everest, Mussoorie.
Visitors taking personal vehicles face serious difficulties on the final stretch of the road leading to the site. The road is extremely narrow, making it impossible for two vehicles to pass simultaneously. Unfortunately, there is no guide or signage at the base to regulate traffic or inform visitors, which results in vehicles getting stuck and causing chaos.
After managing to reach the top with great difficulty, visitors are shocked to learn that a parking fee of Rs. 1000 is being charged. This is highly unreasonable, especially considering the lack of any facilities or proper infrastructure at the site. It appears that the situation is being exploited to take advantage of visitors’ helplessness.
If charges are to be levied, they should be justified with adequate facilities and, most importantly, must be clearly communicated before the uphill drive begins. This would help avoid unnecessary traffic congestion and allow visitors to make informed decisions.
I urge the concerned authorities to look into this matter seriously. Necessary improvements in traffic management, clear information boards at the base, and reasonable, transparent parking charges with basic amenities are essential.
