点评:We keep coming back to Victoria time after time. One of the main reasons is the excellent walking areas around the harbor. For all practical concerns, we will start at the Victoria’s Visitors Center at the base of the harbor where most of the floating docks are located.
Head west along Wharf St. There are a good number of restaurants close by. Recently, we enjoyed “Locals” with its fine selection of salads. Just off that street is Terrazzo’s Italian Restaurant which we highly recommend.
You will need to go south over the newly refurbished Johnson Street Bridge. The West Bay pathway begins on that southern side by Delta Hotels. If you need to use the bathroom, Delta has an open-door policy.
About 10 years ago, the homes along the street were affordable—that was 10 years ago. Since our last visit in 2021, a new restaurant has been created along the pathway called Boom & Batten Restaurant and Café. Our standby restaurant, though, is Spinnakers Gastro Brewpub. Spinnakers is a well-established iconic restaurant in Victoria along an area known as Lime Bay.
This walkway was started in 1977 and completed in 1986. Millions of dollars were spent building the wide path and cemented shoreline. Wooden boardwalks were made to fill-in the gaps. You may come across the artwork of Rich Rico. We first saw his work in 2010. He was still around in 2024. At one point along the walk there is an actual bathroom facility.
Incredible vistas abound. We enjoy watching the float planes fly in and out. The ships that come in from Port Angeles and the ferry from Seattle. The view of the Olympic Mountains across the channel is quite awesome. If you get tired along the way, you can always take the odd-looking taxi boats that frequent the bay.
We usually end our journey at the West Bay Café for a delicious cup of coffee. One can walk further on to McLoughlin Point.
On another journey we will walk the eastern side which consists of the Ogden Point Terminal Pier. We always make it a point to walk out to the Breakwater Lighthouse. Walking east on Dallas Road we come to “Mile Zero Monument,” the end of BC-1. A Terry Fox statue is close by. On another day, we walked in the lovely Beacon Hill Park.
