点评:Mkhuze is spectacularly beautiful. Nestled between the Lebombo Mountains and the Indian Ocean, it offers a rugged landscape that changes into flooded plains. The viewing hides are superb, the roads within the reserve are excellent, and the 2-sleeper chalets are basic but great! The staff that we interacted with were polite and friendly.
Do I wish there were more roads to explore more areas? Yes. Do I wish that the sightings of Big 5 were more plentiful or frequent? Yes.
We stayed for three nights and saw four lions, three square-lipped ungulates, giraffes, zebras, baboons, antelope, mongoose, and 107 bird species. Sadly, we didn't find elephants, leopards, or wild dogs, and the raptors were scarce.
The road that connects the N2 to Mkhuze is awful. Conditions were muddy, and potholes were plentiful. We made it through in a Hyundai i10 Grande, but there were some scary moments along that stretch.
We gave it another try, but Mkhuze is not an obvious choice for us.
