点评:Whether you are an accomplished twitcher or you are bringing little ones to get them interested in wildlife, this centre is for all.
We couldn't believe that the ospreys have been returning to Wales for 20 years, it seems like it was only a few years ago that we knew about their return. In the meantime, this centre has grown and become a little visitor centre with small cafe/refreshments all staffed by volunteers. You can watch the live streams in both the visitor centre building, as well as the hide next door. The live stream allows all to see the birds on their nests, perfect for a close up view without looking through binoculars/scopes, but perfect for the young ones who were visiting who haven't seen these amazing summer visitors to the UK.
The staff are all knowledgeable on both the longer term history of the osprey's return, right to what has been happening this season. It was brilliant to know that there are enough ospreys in the area to cause mischief by mobbing the nests, although this is not great for breeding and incubating the eggs.
The nests are in a secret location nearby, but so close on private land, is a nest that is visible without equipment. Unfortunately the land owner doesn't seem to be sharing his knowledge of which birds (rings) are on the birds in the nest, or allowing camera equipment for monitoring. It doe appear very odd not to share in the success story. Nobody should 'own' these birds who have only slowly returned after 100 years of persecution.
There is no charge for visiting - but there are opportunities to donate in the number of collection boxes on the site.
An extra thrill was seeing the Welsh Railway Steam Train pass along the track as we had just got out of our car. That was exciting.
