点评：Looked sort of unusual to me – most churches in Tobolsk are ‘Siberian baroque’, but this one is prominently ‘classical’.
This is quite understandable. The original wooden church, built 1652, was devastated by fire year 1701, rebuilt and burned again in 1765.
The stone church we can see now was founded 1768. Since the parish had limited means, the construction took over 6 years, the main altar being consecrated 1774. While the church’s outer o still bear certain baroque traits, the bell-tower built 1807 is purely classical.
Although Peter & Paul’s church is centrally located, it became the latest parish church in the Upper Town.
Note the ‘khachkar’ (Armenian stone obelisk) and the fountain nearby. This is the gift of the Armenian diaspora.
The statue of Fedor Dostoyevsky in the park stands here to the memory of the great writer who belonged to this parish when living here in exile.
