Pichillanchue Glacier hike

点评：We parked up just before the ranger station in the middle sector - sector Quetrupllian. You can drive on further but only in a truck or land-rover, we couldn't pass even in a utility vehicle as the track is so bad.
So we hiked the first 4km on the track through the woods, which is pretty steep in places, before we entered the trail proper to the glacier, which is another 4km. This is the best part of the hike, of course. Wooded with lots of monkey puzzle trees to start with, then opens out on the lava field, with streams, mini waterfalls and rock strata, which you walk through to the glacier and a tremendous view of the volcano. It's the other side that you see from Pucon and more snow covered.
Total return journey was four hours, plus stops for lunch and photos. Got great shots of a juvenile condor and red headed woodpecker.
