点评:I have been on three tracks with Camel Treks Australia in the last fifteen months - India in February 2024, Clayton Station in the Northern Flinders Ranges in June 2024, and most recently Mongolia in February this year - 2025.
On all trips I have throughly enjoyed myself. India was certainly an eye opener, I’d always been a bit hesitant to go to India, maybe put off by the large cities and the perceived poverty. But I found India to be vibrant, colourful, exciting yet peaceful in many places, and extremely safe. The people were friendly, charming, helpful, inquisitive, and positive.
Our Australian tour guide Karen was amazing, ensuring all in the group had a memorable and enjoyable experience, she explained the customs of the people, their religion and history. She guided us through temples and the markets, ensuring we all got to experience shopping in India, while at the same time pointing out the better outlets where we could purchase goods at fair prices. Shopping can be a bit bewildering at times, with the huge range pf goods on offer, and many many people bustling around, it’s quite an experience, very different to Australia.
The camel trek in the Jaisalmer Desert was very special, to sleep in a bed roll under the stars at night was quite something, especially when we got a hot water bottle last thing at night, and a nice hot mug of chai first thing in the morning.
And the meals we got out in the desert were unbelievably good. I particularly enjoyed Rishikesh and our trips into the mountains - beautiful and serene, and the mighty Ganga is a sight to behold.
There is an abundance of wildlife in India, we saw two different species of deer, jackals, elephants, a leopard, peacocks and many other birds, and monkeys of various varieties.
I can highly recommend a trip to India with Camel Treks Australia.
The trek on Clayton Station is a completely difference experience, very hands on if you want it to be, and I did. Grooming the camels and saddling up in the morning allows you to get comfortable in their presence, and it’s a very enjoyable ride and at a nice gentle pace. The crew really look after you, making sure safety is paramount, by constantly checking. The food is pretty special and plentiful, and it’s great fun sitting around the campfire at night getting to know the team and your fellow travellers, and the stars at night out in the desert are mind-blowing. Sleeping in a swag it a great experience, they are surprisingly comfortable. The landscape out in the desert is varied and quite beautiful in its own way. I’ll certainly be going back again.
The trip to Mongolia was quite unbelievable. The capital Ulaanbaatar has lots of interesting temples and museums, and some really nice cafes and restaurants. It is certainly the place to purchase your winter clothing, there is a huge range and at very reasonable prices. They say there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing. Our very knowledgeable and professional tour guide Karen, showed us the best places to shop and what fabrics were best. It’s hard to imagine what the Gobi Desert is like in Winter - it’s stark in places, but very beautiful. There is more wildlife than I had imagined, apart from the usual goats, sheep, horses and cows, there were camels, the native Takhi horse, white tailed antelopes, a wolf and quite a lot of vultures.
Our local Mongolian guide was very knowledgable about all aspects of his country - its history, religions, its nomadic people, its commerce and relationships with the neighbouring contries. He was very helpful with translation and explaining the local customs and traditions. Sleeping in Gers was enjoyable, they were very comfortable and warm on the cold nights. The food out in the desert was restaurant quality. The hospitality and friendship shown by the nomadic tribespeople was extroidinary, they we’re welcoming, warm and friendly and wanted to know about our lives back home, all translated by our local guide. The Batrian camels were a vey comfortable and enjoyable ride.
I can certainly recommend a trip to Mongolia with Camel Treks Australia as once in a lifetime very memorable experience.
Camel Treks Australia is such an impressive outfit that I am going to go on their next trip to Morocco.
Camel Treks Australia
