An absolute gem of a museum

点评：Have been meaning to visit here for some time but hadn’t had the time. Went this last week and what a wonderful experience. Went with a friend who was former RAF and we both found the whole time spent here great. We arrived at opening time (weds 1000) and were met by one of the many volunteers in the car park and given a few brief bits of guidance. I must say the whole team of volunteers are some of the best, if not the best, I’ve ever come across. The passion and knowledge they have on the subject matter is outstanding. The museum is primarily a focus on 106 squadron who flew Lancaster bombers from the airfield from 1943 onwards. The losses of men and materiel was huge and the museum beautifully and sensitively covers all aspects of the bombing and the huge losses of personnel. There’s a great little cafe on site and fantastic restored Douglas ‘Dakota’ (which you can climb into and sit in the pilots seats) - you can spend the whole day here if you are really interested and there is so much to see. This is an ‘old school’ museum with no interactive displays - just lots and lots of bits of equipment, letters, aircraft paraphernalia.. an absolute treasure trove of WW2 bomber history.
