Hovertravel "Behind the Scenes" tour, Feb 2025

点评：I booked a "Behind the Scenes" tour for the 23rd February however, in my haste, I didn't notice that I'd chosen the 18th by accident! Not only did Denise, one of the customer service staff, amend the booking for me but there was a slight hiccup when I checked in at Southsea and the staff there couldn't have been more helpful.
The behind the scenes tour is around and hour long and entails a talk on the history of the hovercraft and Hovertravel by Mike, one of their senior manager.
Fascinating to hear about the development of these fantastic machines and how Hovertravel came to be!
The highlight for me, though, had to be the tour around one of the 12000TD hovercraft that the company own and use to carry passengers. They look relatively tiny when viewed from the shore, but are actually enormous! A look on board would not have been complete without being able to climb the ladder in the cockpit, though. I even got to sit in the pilot's seat (but am tempted to deduct stars for not letting me switch it on and take it out for a spin!!! ;-) )
I have used Hovertravel before to travel to the Isle of Wight from my home in Southsea and I have always found the company to be open, honest and reliable. I would (and do!) recommend a trip on the hovercraft to anyone who is coming to Southsea as it's a rare opportunity to ride on one of the last hovercraft services in the world.
To Mike and the team at both Southsea and Ryde - keep up the amazing work and thank you for a brilliant day. I can't wait to come back.
