点评:This one was of my fav places we have visited during our 2nd trip to Big Island - during the first one we visited the Volcanos NP but this time we skipped it and decided to venture out to the South East (Pahoa) of the island - the area is very unique, different then the rest of the island - the lush green (you have that in the North/North East but it's a bit different here with the narrow roads etc.) and then ultimately you get to beach, and you see RED & BLACK = so freakiiiiiing cooooool! I can only imagine how amazing the flowing lava to the water must have looked at the time this was all created.
What caught me off guard completely is how lively this area of the island is - this place is by a perfect road and literally by Uncle Robert's - they actually share the same parking lot area used to start your mini walk to the beach - it's about 5 to 10 minutes easy scenic flat walk on the pathway - very unique experience and I have seen lava by now both in Hawaii and Iceland.
I was coming here thinking there will be no sign of life, trust me there is plenty of people living in the area (for the Big Island standard, not to confuse with Oahu) and it's all safe and easy to get around - something like that in Iceland would mean in the middle of nowhere and no gas station in sight for 2h :)
