点评:Why are you even in this town, if it isn’t to visit the caves? Perhaps you might have been better off doing the far shorter walk up the hill from Albayzin in Granada to the caves at Sacramonte, which could include an abbey visit as well, instead of being in the hottest town in an overheated country walking through grueling and rather unprepossessing territory, to look inside one or two caves. Many of the caves, too, are rather spoiled for me by the facades outside, which make them appear ordinary residences, unlike other cave dwellings in your which do not hide their primal natures.
While Guadix itself may be one of the oldest settlements in Europe, the occupation of these caves seems to have been a more recent matter, and the place therefore lacks the historical pedigree of far more beautiful and interesting troglodytic bailiwicks such as Matera, Italy ( 3rd oldest city in the world), or Cappadoccia in Turkey, more famous than both, and for good reason. The caves at Matera offer the convenience, too, of being part of a beautiful Italian hill town, with great Puglian cuisine at the ready. (The less said about the restaurants of Guadix, the better.)
But you’ve made the climb and will welcome the cool atmosphere within the cave at the museum, and the small set of rooms on display. A tour will justify the walk uphill and the cost of entry. Very compelling, if you’ve not been to this sort of place before.
