点评:This was a highly anticipated walk for my friend and I and thank you to Abel Tasman Guides for their excellent organisation and support. Before our two-day walk, we received a detailed itinerary, and the team were very responsive to our last-minute requests to adjust the itinerary and accommodate our dietary requirements. We enjoyed a warm welcome from Uli on our arrival into Nelson and from Merisha at the charming Tides BnB. Along with the detailed maps provided an introductory text message from Chris also reassured us that we were well taken care of. The evening before our walk we had a table pre booked at the Hooked restaurant in Mārahau where we enjoyed the best ceviche and fish n chips! To top the night off our accommodation gave us the most amazing views of the bay and night sky as well as a solar eclipse !
The next day’s boat ride to Totaranui was a real highlight. Vaughan our driver and guide shared interesting information about the area and entertained us with his jokes. He went the extra mile by taking us to the stunning Shag bay and returned to Totaranui to collect our bags to deliver to Awaroa lodge allowing us to walk with just small daypacks. A word of caution for novice walkers: we ended up walking over 30,000 steps in our first day, taking us five hours instead of the expected three to reach Awaroa Lodge. The Goat bay track was quite steep and we are not sure how we added to the 8.1 km stated distance? The supplied maps were very clear and were a useful guide but according to DOC back in the day the track actually followed the coastline and was more gently undulating but was extensively damaged in a storm a few years back and the new inland track cut in its place. However the views from Skippers Point were incredible, and walking through the lush forests and spotting birds was a true highlight. I felt a great sense of achievement upon reaching Awaroa Lodge for a delicious dinner. As the length of the first day left us with tired legs, Chris was very responsive to my text that evening and quickly organised an earlier water taxi time and shuttle back to Nelson airport the next day. Overall I was happy we chose Abel Tasman guides for their logistics, strong relationships with local tourism providers and their personal and friendly service. This made our walk memorable, and I highly recommend them for anyone wanting to explore the stunning Abel Tasman park, particularly those wishing to maximise their time and experience there. Thank you.
