Very Average Dive Operator - Do Not Pay in USD

点评：Perhaps Te Mara Nui is suffering by comparison bc otherwise we had such amazing dive operators throughout the Tuamoto and Society Islands. But these ladies were not great. First, they only want you to pay in cash, which is fine. They give you several currency options which seems great. We chose USD bc we are American and it was easiest. We brought a ziplock of cash at the current exchange rate plus extra for a tip. We were surprised at the end of the dive when we were asked to pay more than we had in the ziplock. Luckily another diver had some extra cash to cover us. I thought maybe I had miscalculated? Later I checked exchange rates and I had not miscalculated. I emailed Te Mara Nui to ask for more details and they explained they calculate prices based on if they take cash into a bank and exchange it that way… much worse rates. You can’t pay with a credit card to get a good rate so that option is out. If you use Te Mara Nui, I suggest hitting the ATM and withdrawing local currency so you don’t get screwed. I stressed to Te Mara Nui that they really should be straightforward about this poor exchange rate when they offer to take foreign cash.
Next, the staff was pretty unfriendly. You could tell these ladies were over managing a dive operation. Our first dive was pretty but the dive master rarely turned around to check on the divers and didn’t use any hand signs. A few times she wrote names of marine life on a pad. She seemed completely disinterested . Our second dive was a total waste of time. Zero visibility to see a super boring wreck in the middle of nothing but sand. We couldn’t believe they took us there when we asked for the two best dive sites the island could offer.
Have you ever been with a dive operator that just seems to be going through the motions so they can get you under water and then get you off of their boat? This was Te Mara Nui. We would definitely not dive with them again.
