点评:De Museumfabriek is located to the north of Enschede in Roombeek. It is around one mile on foot from Enschede station.
The museum primarily documents the industrial past of the Twente area especially with regard to textile production.
There are many looms and weaving apparatus on view, including Jacquard versions.
I enjoyed the Story of Flight section which referred to the Wright brothers and Dutch aviator Anthony Fokker.
There’s an odd section with displays of deformed piglets which were thought to have been caused by the Chernobyl disaster.
I liked the Liberation skirt from 1945 and the displays of natural history including fossils and skeletons of ancient beasts.
In the auditorium, there was an interesting collection of 19th and 20th century art. Numerous portraits and landscapes, with some reflecting Twente’s industrial past.
The area in which the museum is situated was badly damaged by the firework factory disaster in 2000, and there is some harrowing video footage of that fateful day.
Most signage was in Dutch but there was enough in English to be comprehensible.
I spent an hour or so here and the admission cost was €12.50.
