Amazing And Unique Park Unlike Anywhere Else in Canada

点评：We spent three days here as part of a Western Canadian roadtrip and loved it. There are two distinctive areas, the West block and the East block and they are a two hour drive (one way from each each other). We visited both but stayed in Val Marie which is right by the West block.
Obviously the park has a lot of native grass but there's also gorgeous rolling hills, buttes and badlands. There's also bison, the only prairie dogs in Canada and lots of other wildlife. There's also tons of indigenous artifacts like tipi rings and remnants of ranching life like old corrals and ranch homes.
The highlight of our visit was the 70 mile Butte hike just south of Val Marie which was a moderately strenuous 5km hike up to the top of a butte with jaw dropping views.
We made the long drive to The East Block because it's known for badlands which we love. Unfortunately the weather there in may was much worse than in the Western block. We left 15 and sunny, drove two hours to find it incredibly windy and only 5 degrees. I'm not sure if this weather difference is normal but I'd suggest honing in on one side or the other as the drive is a real pain.
There is camping in the park but if you want a roof over your head then Val Marie is your best bet as it's right next to the park has lodging options (though not many!), a ranger station, one restaurant and a small grocery store. We stayed at the Sanctuary inn which I'll also review.
If you're looking for more options then Swift Current is only about an hour and 15 minutes away.
I highly recommend visiting this gorgeous park.
