点评:We did a day visit to Pilgrims Rest enroute to Graskop.Pilgrims Rest is a beautiful historical village with well preserved buildings dating back to the 19th century. As you strolled down the street you can almost imagine ladies with their long full skirts, high necked blouses walking with their baskets to the provisions store or the smell of bread permeating the air from the miner ‘s houses. The Royal Hotel has maintained its old world charm. I regretted not spending a night in one of its 19th century decorated rooms. I could imagine the number of travellers who stopped at its pub to replenish their thirsty throats whilst listening to the tales of its inhabitants over a pint. . The central garage would have been a saviour for those travellers who lost a wheel whilst traversing a hill. It has an amazing collection of vehicles including wagons and the Ford Model T. A must stop over for history boffins and do spend a night at the Royal - gives you an opportunity to travel back in time when technology did not rule the world and simple pleasures mattered.
