Galicia Jewish Museum的点评
点评：This is a photographic museum (but also an education centre, a place of social/cultural gatherings) capturing moments, emotions and narratives, as well as more obscure but invaluable evidence of Jewish life. It is more than a collection of photographs, it is a constructive space in contrast to all that has been destructed in this area in history.
I have special interest in this museum as I knew the founder, Chris Schwarz, personally.
He was a very giving person of great depth, feeling, understanding and compassion. Whilst the museum is informative and educational and deeply thought out, it is the space that this man invested in for the coming together of people, the revival of culture and …. healing that really touches me. Just a beautiful legacy pioneered by a good, good man.
Chris died in 2007, three years after founding the museum and his story lives on in the people who work there, gather there, exhibit there, administer there and the new photographs taken by the younger photographer commissioned by the museum, to represent time-moving-on in this subject area, fit so well with Chris’s work. This is a modern, evolving project.
And yes there’s a book shop, a cafe, a small conference room and a little space for children to play.
My greatest respect.
