点评:During our journey to our hotel three couples told us about the Sahara Desert trip organized by TUI and highly recommended it so, while staying at The Blue Scheherazade we went to the introduction meeting, heard more about the trip and booked in for an exciting two day adventure...and what an adventure it was, though have to say it was absolutely exhausting and ideally I'd recommend it to those under 60 and over 4 years old. I say that because we are in our 60's and 70's and it took four days of doing nothing to recover, which was just fine got us as we happily lazed around the pool reading.
So, back to the trip.
Day one we were up at 0430, had a continental breakfast then out of the hotel before the sun came up. We had quite a drive to the Sahara Desert but a few stops were included so we could stretch our legs and get refreshments.
I have to say not much will prepare you for the heat and sights in the Sahara Desert, it's HOT, dry and barren, nothing but sand for absolute miles and then suddenly you arrive at a cave house, cut out of sandstone and that's your stop for lunch before heading to the camels and sunset over the desert. There was a choice of camel or horse and cart, we chose to ride the camels, which in hindsight wasn't the best idea for oldies with back problems, fortunately we just rode out a little, rested, then rode back to take our sunset pictures.
Day two weeks were up early again and off to see the sunrise and some Star Wars locations as well as go on the jeep rides. You really can only cross the desert in a jeep because you certainly need a four wheel drive. Fortunately for us the jeeps were not open topped and were very comfortable with plenty of suspension. After the camel ride of the day before we were kind of dreading the jeeps but it was so much fun and possibly the most comfortable and exciting part of the whole trip.
The jeeps took us to the Star Wars film locations which were in the middle of nowhere so, once we'd purchased any souvenirs and we're heading back to the coach we were surprised to see a man, dressed in only shorts and with a raggy blanket appear before us. There was no sign of anything but sand and this man just walking alone. Our driver gave him some water and we were on our way again.
As I said earlier, I'd highly recommend this excursion for fit folks and children over the age of about four, saying that age group because thee were children on our coach who thoroughly enjoyed themselves and rode on the camels with their parents. This was an exciting, grand and exhausting two days but totally worth the money which I think worked out to be about £50 a head.
