点评:This was truly a unique site to see and is absolutely worth a visit. The Hill of Crosses is a symbol of resistance to the Lithuanian people, and is a Catholic pilgrimage site. I highly recommend reading about it before going there as I didn't see any information to be read at the site itself. Its origins date back to the 1800s. But it became a place of resistance when it was bulldozed and destroyed by the Soviets at least 3 times. Each time, Lithuanians began to rebuild it immediately.
It was really interesting to walk through all of the crosses. Every single one is unique. Some of them tell clear stories, while others make you wonder about the reasons why they were placed there. Visitors can also plant their own crosses at the site. It's continuously growing.
The site was much larger than we realized. There are literally hundreds of thousands of crosses. We walked around for a while, and we still didn't manage to see even half of the place. There are pathways through the crosses and it felt like it kept going on forever. It's really an impressive site to see.
One thing that I really loved is that the site is open 24 hours and is free to visit. It's never closed off to people. We actually arrived around 8:00pm and loved that we were still able to walk around at our leisure.
