A rare opportunity to see an Edwardian masterpiece.

点评：Manderston is only open for a month or so in April/May and closes this year after Bank Holiday Monday on May 5th, so you may have to wait until next Spring, depending on when you read this! If you can visit, do. This is an amazing Edwardian mansion, largely untouched since it was built right at the beginning of the 20th Century. No expense was spared on the building or decoration of this amazing house, and you will see a lot of the lavish ground floor rooms as well as some of the servants’ quarters. We had the excellent Edward as our guide, exactly the gentleman you would expect to show you round in times gone by. The tour is informative and engaging with just the right amount of information and lasts a good 90 minutes. Stock up with sandwiches and other picnic items from the nearby Co-op in Duns as there is no tea room here, but you can picnic in the impressive gardens and grounds. Mown lawns, bluebell carpets and beautiful trees surround the house but don’t miss the impressive stable block or the marble dairy as well. The formal gardens perhaps have seen better days but the grass is beautifully mown and edged, and the hedges are clipped to perfection, and the terrace in front of the house is most impressive with views over the lake and fine rhododendrons.
