Up in Cairns in June 2021, and most recent in late May 2022. Cairns Golf Club is the only place in FNQ where we have been attacked by Midges. Horrendous in 2021. Applied tropical strength repellent before play and 4 times during play in 2022, and still got smashed by them. There are stagnant water creeks and dams on course which are a perfect breeding ground. Basically, I won’t play there again, because having hundreds of red welts on you for a week which itch like crazy isn’t workable. There is no warning sign at the club. There should be.
Course fairways are currently under maintenance from heavy wet season plus irrigation works. Maybe 6 of them are strongly bare requiring nearest point of relief.
If you are going to play there, long sleeves, long pants, and lots of tropical strength even on your face, neck and hands.
