点评:An insight into the people that built the tombs for the King
s and Queens.....
Not of the faint hearted I am going to put here... Although most of the site is just the remains of walls, interesting in themselves when you are high up looking down on them, the first part of the site that you come to includes a couple of tombs which I could not go into.. Firstly the access to them is not good, one of them involves a steep staircase, and with my breathing difficulties the journey down is easy but not so good coming up, indeed I never got more than half way down when panic set in because I am a bit claustrophobic as well, and I couldn't wait to get out.
And then there is a second tomb which is accessible only on hand and knees, I post a photo of somebody coming out of it!
Apparently both are well worth a visit.
It always worries me a bit when the tradesmen have tombs to rival the Kings themselves, one wonders whether they had their fingers in the till so to speak!
Even without going into a couple of tombs I got a lot out of my visit because you suddenly realise how big the 'machinery' was for building tombs and other buildings in terms of manpower.
Further into the site there is the temple dedicated to various Gods which has some interesting graffiti in Greek on the outside walls, and an impressive gateway. Restoration is underway here and also some cataloguing going on...
Near the temple is a very large hole in the ground which was an attempt by the inhabitants to dig a well to provide water... a vain attempt because the Nile water table is much lower than they could dig.
