萨格勒布上城区的点评
点评：Again we have a local guide to explain and it helps to better appreciate the City/Town.. Upper town is the historical part of the city and certainly where you find most of the tourists. Here there are many restaurants, cafes, shops, narrow laneways and historical buildings the atmosphere is abit different comparatively from the lower town area.
From the coach disembarking area we walked slight upslope to the Upper Town area, also called the Old Town of Zagreb. Here the area was formed by a medieval neighborhood of churches, museums, galleries and some official buildings. Starting from Ban Jelacic Square, the historic district can be easily explored on foot over a few hours if one goes in-depth. Meandering through the maze of old buildings we walked past the 13th-century Stone Gate presiding a shrine to the Virgin Mary that did not burn in the devastating fires of the 1600s.
The most impressive building here in Upper Town is the 11th-century Zagreb Cathedral. The twin spired church that dominates the Zagreb skyline has been undergoing extensive restoration going on for the last few years.
The other important building will be the St. Mark's Church's colorful tiled roof (and how the King love chess contributes to the .. ). The square is now home to the offices and official residence of the Croatian President on one side and the Croatian Houses of Parliament on the other. The Museum of Broken Relationships is much newer. Lotrscak Tower still protects the Upper Town, firing a cannon every day at noon.
From the top of the Old Town and looked down it was a much-lit amazing sight. Marvelous!
