Miraflores Visitor Center的点评
点评：Miraflores comprises three locks that form part of the Panamá Canal and is the name of the small lake that separates these locks from the Pedro Miguel Locks. Each of the three locks raises/lowers enormous ships 54 feet in two stages, allowing transit to and from the Pacific Ocean. Admission for adults is $17.22. There is an observation deck providing an impressive view of ships in the locks. It’s best to learn when a ship is scheduled to transition between locks. I arrived early and learned that the next transit would be at 3:00 that afternoon, too much of a wait.
The admission cost includes a 3D Cinemax video of the Canal’s construction and current operation. Quite an education. These current locks were constructed by Panamanians, not the old locks from more than a century before. Each lock accommodates a ship 900 feet long [almost the equivalent height of the Empire State Building] that carries 10,000 containers. It is truly a modern Wonder of the World.
