Amazing - but with a safety risk

点评：This is our 5th visit to TCI. In 2018 and 2019 Smith’s Reef was somewhat protected. In 2022 and 2023 I contacted several tour operators as they were bringing their boats right into Smith’s Reef around the markers, at the risk of snorkelers, and absolute total disregard of the reef and sea grass beds. Caicos Dream Tours responded to my concern and thus far I have not seen them devastating the area. On our return this year, the markers to keep boats out have been removed. Yesterday there were 4 operators in the area - all with absolutely no regard for the coral reefs, sea grass beds, or snorkelers. Yesterday Island Vibes Tours showed up with 2 or 3 people, they launched their anchor, pulled up, reversed and launched again. With their anchor tearing up sea grass and their “tourists” snorkelled within the marked boundaries. The smaller boats set anchor perilously close to the coral, or on the coral! Absolutely disgusting. Then 2 days in a row Turks Tour Company showed up with their clear boat and proceeded to travel around the reefs with snorkelers in the water. This situation has become dangerous for snorkelers and the reef will never recover with the repeated launching of anchors into the coral and the sea grass beds. Snorkelling at this location does not require a boat! Tour operators should be banned from bringing tourists in by boat. I’m just so sad and frustrated.
