Not confined to the bear pit… do research before visiting.🐻

点评：I visited Bern for a few hours yesterday, (13th March, 2025), from a ski resort an hour away. The very helpful lady at tourist information gave me a map of the “old town” and highlighted points of interest. (I highly recommend visiting the EINSTEIN-HAUS). When I enquired about the bears she advised me not to bother going as “they are still sleeping.”
Walking the route she gave me later in the day, I did notice quite a few people overlooking an area which turned out to be the bear pit. Apparently all three bears have come out of hibernation very recently and I was able to see Finn, the father bear walking around the enclosure. Apparently Björk, (mother bear), and Ursina, (baby bear… although she is actually 15 years old now), were somewhere around also.
The staff on site were answering questions from visitors and the man that I spoke with was very helpful. The negative reviews on TA seem to have been written by people who have not researched BärenPark Bern… they don’t seem to have knowledge of the adjacent 6,000 square metre enclosure by the side of the river, complete with a pool, which the bears can access via a tunnel.
STATUS OF BEAR WELFARE - Zoocheck:- BärenPark meets and exceeds their minimum welfare standards. Another positive is that the bears are living with their family and will never be persecuted by hunters!
