3 Gorges Dam by bus from Yichang
三峡大坝的点评
点评：I visited 3 Gorges Dam first using public transit from downtown Yichang then the tourist shuttle busses in the dam area. Well run operation, good views of the dam.
I took a local bus in Yichang to get to YeMingZhu BRT (夜明珠). I then walked south about 5 minutes where there was a fenced in parking lot and bus 216 was inside. I bought a ticket for 10 元 and the bus went straight to the dam area. Inside the dam area the bus makes several stops but you need to get off at the tourist center (三峡大坝游客换乘中心).
From the tourist center there are different options for tours but all of them include the basic bus loop. I just went with the bus loop, which was 35 元。There are buses constantly running and you are not assigned to one in particular. The first stop is Tanzi Hill (坛子岭)/196平台. You walk from there to Ship Lock Scenic Area followed by Three Gorges Reservoir Viewing Platform then 185 platform (185观景平台) to see the dam from above then you get picked up again by bus and go to River Closure Memorial Park 截流纪念园 to see the dam from below. You then get picked up again and get taken back to the tourist center. I then took bus 216 back to town.
Baidu’s directions worked fine using 三峡大坝游客换乘中心 as the destination but the time estimates were way off, it only took about a half hour from downtown to the visitor’s center, not 1.5 hours as Baidu said. I took bus 216 but I saw a bus 809 that also runs somewhere in Yichang.
