点评:I visited the Great Tapestry of Scotland and was absolutely blown away by the amazing and intricate stitching!!
However, the history interpretation was awful. I watch the small video of Alastair Moffat the Historian responsible for the interpretation where he claimed to want to write a "Peoples history of Scotland". Besides completely ignoring all modern historiography - for example stating that the Battle of Dunnichan was at For for when almost all historians would now place it at Badenoch - there are severe factual errors - less than 1% of Scots speaking Gaelic or saying that old Welsh was Scotland original native tongue - and omissions to any people's history.
There is no mention of The Scottish political martyrs of the 1790s, no mention of the 1820 insurrection, no mention of Red Clydeside all events vital to any people's history of Scotland. Furthermore what little mention there is of India or African is at best glossing over the awfulness of Colonialism and at worst actively obscuring these crimes.
Moffat clearly used this opportunity to push his own discredited ideas of history and agenda.
Go for the Wonderful Tapestries, admire and appreciate the work, craft and beauty put into them. But don't read the interpretation panels, some are passable many are factually wrong or bordering on offensive in their omissions or wording.
