Green Cape Lighthouse的点评
点评：This is the southernmost lighthouse in New South Wales but it was also the first concrete lighthouse tower in Australia when it was built in 1883. Whilst it was there … it didn’t always save ships because the Ly-ee-Moon was enigmatically wrecked nearby in 1886…the tombstones of those who perished dot the area.
The lighthouse was designed by James Barnet and built from 1881 to 1883 by Albert Wood Aspinall. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 1 February 2013.
This was the last thing we went to see in NSW on a recent road trip. The romanticised thought of visiting a lighthouse appealed to me- my daughter less so. Once we turned off to visit the lighthouse the road became interesting. When I say interesting… it was a mix of corrugated and rough. There is a small piece that literally lasts a couple of hundred metres with bitumen on it…. It’s a nice break from the corrugation and potholes. This trip can be done in any car, but more care will need to be taken if you are not driving a 4WD.
When we arrived at the lighthouse, there was a carpark area with a shelter at the end of it. Walk towards the shelter and follow the path. There are information boards along the way and the path is exceptional. You will need to watch for excrement along the way- no this is not a public bathroom… the animals are very active in the area. We saw wallabies and kangaroos on our visit and strongly suspect there are wombats… or perhaps prehistoric animals based on the size of the excrement. 🤭
You can follow the path past the 29metre lighthouse and past the skeletal metal tower and stand looking out to Disaster Bay. It is exceptionally beautiful… very interesting and well worth the trip if you ask me. My daughter felt we were going to die going somewhere so remote (bit of a drama queen!). But we both found the trip interesting.
