Avoid Valu Lakumorre Guesthouse but Jaco really is unique!

点评：Living in Dili and going to Jaco Island.
In Jaco the view is incredible. Crystal clear waters and one of the few remote places there still is.
Getting to Jaco is no easy task and I recommend having a 4WD as the last 30/40km of the road are VERY bumpy. It took us around 2h to do it.
Nevertheless, the views you get and the friendly communities you drive through are worth the trip.
We stayed in Valu Lakumorre Guesthouse and, though in a stunning location, we were let down.
The rooms were expensive. You have the option of a $50-room or a $80-room. The only difference is that the $80-room is closer to a bathroom - Not worth it.
We were the only guests and a friendly lady welcomed us although only spoke Tétum.
They had no food available and we only ate rice and chips - They charged $10/pp for it!
The rooms itself were okay, with no AC but with a sufficient fan.
The bathroom was absolutely horrible. Shower with no power, the bucket was only with salty water (which would be what you want to get rid of) and the toilet was disgusting.
At night, with no warning, they cut the water out and we were not able to shower.
We discussed this with the owner and nobody seemed bothered with our comfort - at all!
The place has good potential but the mentality is not for you to enjoy it, it is for you to pay for it. Nothing was done for us to make the most out of this beautiful place.
Also, on the next day, the people in charge of the 5-min boat to the island were not interested in taking us, so we didn't get to Jaco on the second day, because they did not felt like it.
In summary, having our fair share of Timor-Leste's conditions and daily life, still Jaco is an incredible place filled with jaw-dropping views but very badly exploited to make the most of tourists money.
If you go there, I would not recommend Valu Lakumorre Guesthouse or, at least, make sure they have improved their conditions.
