Car Parking Charges make Hylands not worth visiting now. Totally unreasonable nobody use it again !,
Don’t bother.
Outrageous parking charges. £5.50 if you stay for more than 1 hour. Officious staff in the on site cafe, who were happy to charge £9.50 for soup and bread. Also all food has a surcharge for eating inside the premises. Obviously we will not return as there are far nicer places to walk and eat in the local area. Great park and location but unfortunately Chelmsford Council have got this offering really wrong.

Disappointed with the parking set up.
The park is lovely, although there is some confusion about where dogs can and cannot be let off the lead, also the courtyard area where the cafe and shops are does not allowed dogs, subsequently the area is empty, clearly not good for business for the shop and cafe on that side; the other side where dog owners are permitted was packed, busy and vibrant. My biggest criticism of the park is the parking facilities. I went with a 76 year old friend who does not have a smart phone or do online banking, if his granddaughter had not been with us we would not have been able to park. I consider this to be discriminatory to not only people of a certain age, but to climate activists who understand the damage smartphones and our online life do, to people with learning difficulties, anxiety, stress that may not be able to manage smart phones or online banking. Because of this one thing, the parking and how it is set up, I will never go to this park again, because it suggests that the management of the park are not inclusive or adhere to the diversity and equalities act by making reasonable adjustments for people that do not have smart phones and online banking and those that cannot manage such devices.

EXORBITANT CAR PARKING CHARGES.
Went to meet for a coffee, service a bit slow but they were busy.
PARKING CHARGES were exorbitant. £ 3.35 for an hour or £ 5.00 all day. It was an expensive cup of coffee with parking charges.
I will not go back and next time meeting relatives for a coffee go elsewhere.

Lovely walks in open parkland
The park is especially appealing in Autumn thanks to its ancient trees.
Sadly, parking charges introduced by the City Council have limited access to many visitors.

I love Hylands Park, have been going there since childhood but very sad to see that it is now pretty much deserted.
Obvious sign of this is the cafe, used to be very hard to get a table at this time of the year, now virtually empty.
I doubt the cafe, artists and lovely bookshop will be around much longer.
I get that the park costs money to maintain and I feel £1 or £2 for the whole day would not have been unreasonable for parking and generated lots of revenue.
Please make it a flat charge or remove it completely to rejuvenate this lovely park Chelmsford County Council!!!!

Used to be a regular journey break but following the introduction of the parking charges unlikely to be visiting again. If we were staying for the day then £5 is actually quite reasonable, there's a lovely play park and gardens however £3.35 for 1 hour does seem a bit steep. No signs about the parking charge only paid because we spotted the machine - wonder how many people have been caught with a parking fine over these changes.
Parking charges.
Now they have introduced heavy parking charges I doubt we will ever go there again. Every local council has parks and recreational areas ... which are already paif for in council taxes. Even non-residents should not pay to park since we all have access to each other's parks.
I would not recommend this park until chares are removed.

First visit to the park and it wasn’t clear if I should have paid for parking. If you are visiting the house and you have friends with walking difficulties then do not park at Hylands park. Follow signs on the London Road to the house. If I should have paid for parking at the park then I might think twice about going there in the future just for a walk which is a shame.
Greedy council charging ridiculous parking fees!
Wanted to visit the craft and farmers' market (which is just a few stalls, but thought it would be nice on our way into Chelmsford), but had to pay £3.35 just to park for an hour! Crazy prices for a short visit. Needless to say we won't be patronising the market again, or probably bothering much at all with Hylands Park. It's simply not worth the money for a short visit. Stallholders were complaining it was 'dead', the parking sting might be a clue...

Take away the ridiculously overpriced porking charge! Used to be free, GREEDY COUNCIL saw a cash-cow! I wouldn't recommend anybody goes here for any reason, just lining the coffers of the GREEDY COUNCIL!!!

We visited here for a quick walk around the park. Although some of it is lovely, it’s not amazing and the parking was expensive (£6.50 if you want anything more than an hour)

Oh dear what a shame - we went there yesterday just for a walk around this beautiful place. We left straight away because of the parking charges. I think it is right to charge for parking to help with expenses - but £3.35 an hour - NO - £1.50 - £2.00 would be acceptable. Its such a shame - we've been visiting this gorgeous place for over 10 years on a regular basis - but no more I'm afraid. But as a footnote, the gardeners and park keepers keep this place looking wonderful - they work so hard. We will miss it.
