点评：Stavanger's market square is not too impressive. Actually, it does not look much like a square, but rather like a descent from the cathedral to the harbor. In the Middle Ages and Modern times, it was significantly smaller, becoming larger only in the second third of the 19th century due to the demolition of houses. The square acquires some composition thanks to two monuments. The first one was installed in 1928 almost in the center. Sculptor Magnus Vigrestad sculpted Alexander Kielland, a left-wing radical writer and mayor of Stavanger at the beginning of the 20th century. The second is the monument to Navigation ("Sjøfartsmonumentet") by sculptor Arnold Haukeland, installed almost at the harbor. There has been no permanent trade on the square for a long time, but as I understand it, it is allowed on some holidays or Sundays..
