If someone asks me what impressed me the most in Chiang Mai, I’d say without hesitation: Chedi Naphaphonphumisiri, the royal pagoda on top of Doi Inthanon – the highest mountain in Thailand.
As our car reached the top, I was completely in awe. The air was fresh and cool, the sky was high and blue, and clouds drifted right at eye level – it truly felt like another world, peaceful and calming.
The pagoda stood tall with its deep purple structure and a golden tip shimmering under the sun. Surrounding it was a beautifully maintained flower garden, colorful and vibrant – just looking at it brought me peace.
The pagoda was built to honor Queen Sirikit’s 60th birthday, and every detail reflects grace and respect. Walking around the grounds, everything felt still and sacred. There was no noise, no rush – just wind, quiet footsteps, and my own thoughts gently slowing down.
What I loved the most was standing on the steps looking out – the panoramic view of mountains and sky was simply breathtaking.
Some quick tips if you’re planning to go:
• Dress respectfully, as this is a holy place.
• There are stairs, but they’re manageable – not too tiring.
• Go early in the morning for cooler weather and better photos.
To sum it up: if you’re visiting Chiang Mai and haven’t been to Doi Inthanon and this pagoda, you’re definitely missing out.
I’d give it a solid 9/10 – a truly memorable and peaceful experience.
