Via Ferrata climb up the mountain is exciting but challenging

点评：We did the Via Ferrata climb up to the top and it was a very exciting experience but I felt it was not advertised in an entirely correct way. Pictures and text talk about an easy climb using steps in the mountains (Via ferrata also means iron road) and "anyone can do it" - but there are no steps apart from perhaps at the very top - otherwise it is just very steep ascent and then rock climbing with security wire at the most difficult parts. So not so easy for those who are not good at climbining and people who are not in a reasonable physical condition should not do it.
People write that "kids can do it" - well my strong and well-trained 12 year old daughter who have tried climbing before one a few occasions really struggled with some parts and had to give up on one section, despite her best efforts. You also have to weigh at least 40 kg for the equipment to work properly so it is for older kids. It is possible to walk around the steepest climbs but this is still a very steep walk so don't accompany people unless you are prepared to do quite a climb yourself. Also make sure you buy tickets down with the gondola and find out when the last time down is - we really struggled to make the 4 pm last time when we started at 2 pm, without any pause for food or anything. It's quite a family challenge unless you are used to rock climbing from before.
The road is free if you have your own equipment or if you are not doing the climbs, several places rent equipment in town. You don't really need a guide unless you are usure of how to climb in which case a guide will coach you.
