点评:We had never heard of Gabrielle Munter, seen her art or heard of her relationship with Vassily Kandinsky. Local friends said Murnau was about far more than its shops! We spent about an hour here. It has the same feel as Charleston in Sussex with decoration on wardrobes, beds, chairs, etc. Munter’s art is very varied with some canvases painted with a narrow colour range and it a “free” style with broad brush strokes. My favourite however was a vase still life from the mid 1920s where the texturing and light and shade were of a completely different order.
There is an English language book although most of the signage is in German. The story of Munter and how her life intertwined with Kandinsky was interesting and the adverse effects of war on both is well described. This is a small collection but like Charlston is bought to life by it being in the home where it was created,
