Sky's The Limit Observatory and Nature Center的点评
点评：We attended the night sky program. The best part was the tour of the orrery that the docent gave us before the sun set - that was absolutely fascinating. But it went downhill from there.
The presentation started with a professor and it was too detailed; I doubt the audience understood what he was talking about. We noticed people getting up a lot. We weren't sure what we were supposed to learn / why he was talking about what he was talking about. I think understanding that people attending are not astronomers (or whatever the term is) for the most part and just want to see cool stars would go a long way.
The second presenter used a laser to point out stars are constellations, and he kept it more basic, which was appreciated and more interesting.
After the presentation was over, there were folks with telescopes set up and we walked around and looked through them to see planets and stars. The professor had his telescope trained on O'Ryan's Nebula (apologies if that's spelled wrong), which was absolutely amazing.
Hot chocolate was available, which was nice.
I think the biggest disappointment was that the webpage for the program indicates that images from the main huge telescope inside the dome would be projected on the outside monitor that was used for the presentation. This did not happen. We had an opportunity to look through that telescope for a minute after waiting in a long line.
Also, headlights from passing cars shined on the presentation the whole time.
I feel bad being so negative because they are all wonderful volunteers and they are trying so hard to present their passion to the world, which I appreciate very much. A+ for effort and intent.
