点评：I came to Madeira seeking the wine, but I found also excellent rum - being a rum lover and a collector I really appreciated the visit to this place - especially, since after visiting more than 40+ rum distilleries in various times of the year this was the first time I actually got to witness how the freshly harvested sugar cane was crashed and juice extracted - which was a cherry on the top :) we visited in May and during that time you could also sample the sugar cane juice.
When we visited in December of the same year for the 2nd time the place was pretty dead, you could still walk around and sample (paid sampling only) various rums etc. but no more sugar cane juice, nor really action inside, for obvious out of season reasons.
They produce sugar cane rum aka rhum aka agricole rum - very good quality, even the white one!
During May we parked by Calheta beach, paid parking - but during December we have learned there is actually an entrance to the grounds with a free parking lot so take advantage of that as otherwise it's a steep walk downhill/uphill :) last but not least there is a nice "rum loving place" for lunch pretty much next door Bentornato a Rum Bar I would recommend as a combo with this visit.
