点评:Saturday 8th of March and we walked this stretch of beach along the South Goan coast. It is sandwiched between Gonsua and Betalbatim beaches
Over the years we have enjoyed walking along this stretch of beach to visit Amri's Sunset Beach Shack, no longer there, or on our way to Colva, futher down the beach.
We commenced at Gonsua Beach and ended up at Shepherd's Beach Shack, the new Shack. There was a sign by the Shack informing guests of the charges for the sunbeds and umbrellas.
It was rather disappointing, walking here, on a number of levels. Firstly it was so dirty there was so much rubbish on the sand, a good deal had been washed in by the sea but humans left a lot as well. This section of the beach had not been cleaned in a long time.
Strangely enough, on our return walk to Gonsua Beach, two beach cleaners emerged and make a half hearted attempt at cleaning. It appeared that they were scavenging only picking up recycling items and leaving the rest.
It was also saddening to see that a vast number of the tall graceful coconut trees and bushes that were along the sand dunes at the back of the beach had gone. This exposed the rubbish left by weekend pickners and party makers.
The Shrine by the small fishing village on the sand dunes was also engulfed in rubbish.
There were a couple of fishing boats rested up on the beach, which did make for great photographs, however the fishermen did contribute to a lot of the rubbish on the beach. This included pieces of netting, plastic bottles used as floats and discarded broken fishing baskets.
Along the sand dunes a series of linked circular concrete rings acts as a protector and sea defence for the dunes, not very pretty but necessary.
Despite the rubbish issues it is still a wonderful view from here down towards Colva.
Don't think we will be walking this way again.
