点评：A new museum on the edge of the large archaeological site, the museum sucked us in with its name, suggesting that it would tell the story of frankincense and its importance to the development of Salalah or Oman. Rather, there is an interesting exhibit on the ships that helped develop overall trade in the region across the centuries and an exhibit on the history of Oman, with one single paragraph about frankincense. (There is area planted with frankincense trees in the parking lot.). The museum is located on the grounds of the UNESCO World Heritage archeological site being excavated along the sea coast. We admittedly did not tour it, as our time was short and the sun strong. We told the ticket seller that we were disappointed that there was not more to see about frankincense inside the museum. He laughed and said tourists have been complaining since the museum opened about exactly this. He sent us to the administrative offices with a security guard to see the manager, but the offices were completely empty at 11 AM on a Thursday. So, go to the museum to see the ships. If this isn’t your bag, save the OMR 3 per person and go five minutes down the road to the souk to learn about frankincense from the dozens of vendors who will tell you about the various types, how it made, and the many ways it can be used.
