Not the best rave but still a good time
满月派对的点评
点评：Had to go once just to see if all the criticisms were true. Spoiler -yes, they are.
Yes it's crowded and there are pickpockets (fortunately not a victim of one).
It's at the far southern end of the island and it's a hassle to get there and back unless you stay nearby... but that comes with its own problems like room break-ins and not getting to sleep. I wisely chose a place that's a 10 minute walk away, which is the best compromise.
Fly-by-night alcohol vendors are a bit dangerous, but one can mitigate the risk by buying from established places. Everything is on the pricey side of course. Buying other substances is even more of a risk, so I didn't try it. They are known to work with the cops and you don't even know what you'll get.
Bars charge 40 Baht to use the toilet, so people are cheap and use the ocean as their toilet.
Wore good shoes so didn't get cut on broken glass, but I did see it happen to at least one person.
All this can be forgiven if the music was good, but that was the biggest crime of all -so many stages, and almost all of them playing banal, lowest common denominator garbage! Rihanna and the Village People? Seriously? Ok, I kind of like Rihanna, but not at a rave! And all these stages are so close together, seemed like each one was at war with each other. And of course they turned the volume up so loud I had to bring out earplugs.
I really wanted to like this thing, and I'm glad I experienced it once. But the expats who live here all told me the same thing -even if you're into the party scene, there are better parties to be had on the island. And they're right.
