Far Easier, And Far More Rewarding, Than You Might Think!

点评：It's impossible not to notice (and admire) the Castle of Montgri. You can see it from just about everywhere in the Girona - L'Escala - Pals area. Getting up looks daunting (we put it off for many years, for just that reason) but it really isn't. It takes about 40 mins to an hour, depending up on how many stops you decide on the journey.
There are two routes (1) from the town of Torroella de Montgri and (2) from the reserve side of the hill. Both routes meet about half way up, at a site of a small mount and cross.
Route (1) suits if you don't have a car and find yourself on foot in the Torroella de Montgri [A helpful google maps reference to find the location was removed by Trip Advisor]
Route (2) involves a 20 min drive to the (Monastery) of Ermita de Santa Caterina [A helpful google maps reference to find the location was removed by Trip Advisor] on the opposite side of the hill.
Either route is medium difficulty and could be done in trainers. Definitely not flip-flops!
Once you are up there, the views are breath taking. We went early morning to enjoy the sun rise. The earlier the better as you will not be alone on the journey, at any time of the year. The castle itself is unfinished - completely hollow inside - but no less impressive for that. You can take a spiral staircase and walk the entire parapets at the top.
