Boat on lake and nature walk both amazing

点评：We were advised by our driver/guide to do the boat trip on the lake at 3:30pm (the last trip of the day). We saw so many animals and birds - elephants, sambar deer, wild boars, buffaloes, a kingfisher and long tailed squirrel to name but a few. The boat crew were absolutely amazing. They pointed out the animals and birds, explained about them and took photos for us with our cameras through their binoculars, so we got much better shots than we would have ourselves. Our driver purchased our tickets for us in advance and ensured that we were escorted through the queues for the shuttle bus and the boat, making the whole (what looked like a chaotic) process simple and straightforward.
We did the nature walk the next morning at 10:00am. It is about 2 hours long, mostly flat and in the shaded forest, and accessed via a simple raft (that you stand on) across the narrow stretch of water. Our guide, Kannan, was so lovely. He clearly loved his job and got so excited when we saw the second rarest butterfly in Kerala. He explained about the trees, plants, animals and birds in so much detail and he took photos with our cameras whilst we observed through his binoculars. Our driver told us that the guides here are really poorly paid so suggested a tip (which he didn’t always do).
I totally recommend these two activities at the times we did them.
