点评:I used to work in Colwyn Bay and would from time to time walk along the prom to Rhos-on-Sea during my lunch hour. It was a nice, flat walk but the problem was that every winter there'd be storms which would send waves crashing over the sea wall and they'd rip the asphalt surface to pieces. A few years back Conwy County Borough Council secured some funding to carry out flood defence work at Rhos. The main part of the work involved dredging huge quantities of sand from out at sea and dumping it onto the existing beach to raise the beach level. This means the tide no longer comes all the way in so the risk of damage to the prom is minimised.
However the new beach wasn't the only thing that the funding covered. In addition to the new beach the funding paid for a new promenade. There's now a new one-way system to reduce the volume of traffic, more parking and electric vehicle charging points (albeit not yet connect to the grid at the time of writing). There's also a load of funky new street furniture, some of which is more "practical" than others, lots of free activities for kids and free to use mobile phone charging points. It's a much livelier and more interesting place than it used to be and certainly a much more fun and family friendly place to visit. It's all still very new so I guess the test will be what it all looks like in a few years time after a few Winters worth of storms but as at 2024 I'd very much recommend a visit.
