点评:The Franey Trail is part of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park close to Ingonish Centre (not Dingwall as listed in the Tripadvisor heading). It’s a fun and challenging but not overly long hike (2-1/2 to 3 hours) that makes for a good morning workout (a local who passed us says he runs it every day). It’s a 7km loop and you should definitely head out on the southern leg which consists of a series of steepish climbs and go clockwise to the summit, with the return leg a long, continuous descent.
You’ll need to first get a park pass from the Parks Canada office about 4.5 km south along the Cabot Trail from the turnoff that leads to the Franey trailhead. The One-Day or Two-Day passes are the best bet for most visitors. The pass will give you access to all the many hiking trails in the park and let you stop at the lookouts along the Cabot Trail.
