点评:The Iznik Museum reopened in 2023 in a new, purpose-built building. So, everything still looks and feels new.
While admittedly a small museum without a gift shop or even a cafe, everything is well done. All of the exhibits have Turkish and English signage. The English translations are perfect or near-perfect translations. So you will understand everything you see.
The museum's contents range from pre-history to history, and it has assorted artifacts and objects. Obviously, there is a primary focus on classical history; namely, the Romans. There is an extensive collection of sculptures, stones, and other carved objects from antiquity. There is also a good section on the Council of Nicea in 325.
You could easily spend 1 or 2 hours here, depending on your interest. A gift shop and a small cafe would be nice additions. There was no place to buy a guidebook or postcards.
For a small-city museum, the Iznik Museum is excellent and much better than what you would find at a comparable small-city museum in the USA.
